Types of Vitiligo
Vitiligo is classified into two main types: segmental and non-segmental vitiligo. Non-segmental vitiligo (generalized vitiligo) is the most common type, where white patches appear symmetrically on both sides of the body, often spreading over time. It can affect areas like the face, hands, and joints. Segmental vitiligo, on the other hand, affects only one side or a specific area of the body and usually develops at a younger age. It tends to spread quickly at first but then stabilizes. Other subtypes include focal vitiligo (limited to a few spots), acrofacial vitiligo (affecting hands, feet, and face), and universal vitiligo (widespread depigmentation across most of the body).
